It is no secret that in today’s world we have no time for facets of a luxury lifestyle. Aside from money being hard to come by, we don’t even have time to smoke a cigar. It is true that time is money in this day and age, but whether luxury is in your budget, today’s cigar shops may be able to provide an experience on the cheap. Instead of looking for ways to get things done faster and buying gadgets that do more, perhaps taking a time out for a cigar and a glass of brandy may be just what our generation needs.
Back in the 1950’s, cigar shops –previously dubbed boys clubs- were social hangouts, reserved for a strictly men only audience. But back then; where social segregation kept women out of such establishments, cigar shops can be just the ticket for an outside-the-box social event or networking meeting. No that the stigma has been removed, cigar shops are still intriguing and are an excellent forum for putting the “slow down” back into life by taking time to enjoy smoking or swirling a cigar.
An acquired taste, many women love the aroma of a high end cigar and feel empowered by the even playing field that “lighting one up” in the presence of men, gives them. Sexism aside, cigar shops have evolved from a one-stop-smoke shop where locals pick up their cigarettes to an underground empire that is just beginning to gain momentum.
With cigar shops like, The Nashville Cigar Club and the Tri-state area Esquire Cigar, the past has now come back to roost, putting the glamour back into an after-work meeting. While some cigar rooms boasting an impressive liquor list, there is a large amount of cigar shop turned club that are strictly smoking rooms. Guys and gals can put on their fedora’s and mingle in a classy environment, amidst cedar paneled walls and can channel their inner flapper or Jim Dandy circa 1878- getting in touch with their prohibition-era personality.
Tradition is almost unheard of in a social culture that is obsessed with technology and the future, but the cigar shop is a golden stage for good old-fashioned interaction. Most of the cigar shops around don’t have free wi-fi, but that’s on purpose! No coffee grinders or espresso machines to be found, the modern day cigar shop may just be the next Starbucks, or at least the next best thing to get a deal closed.
